Nylon Shutter Pins for Plantation Shutters.

Shutter Pin Construction:

nylon louver pinNylon shutter pins are used in the constructions of interior wood plantation shutters.  They are located at either end of the louvers or slats within you plantation shutter.  The nylon louver pins serves two purposes.  The first is to support the louver within the panel.  The second is to allow the louver to rotate within the panel.  Nylon shutter pins are constructed with a washer or flange that is molded into the pin.  This washer prevents the louver from contacting or rubbing up against the inside of the shutter stile resulting in smooth operation of the louver.  There are two different shutter pin diameters on either side of the washer.  The larger diameter of the nylon shutter pin is inserted into the shutter stile.  The diameter of the hole in the shutter stile should be 1/4 inch.  The opposite side of the nylon shutter pins which is a smaller diameter is inserted into the hole at the end of the louver.  The diameter of this hole can be either 5/32" or 9/64".  The latter diameter will be a tighter fit which lends itself to production methods requiring movements of louvers from one station to the next with the nylon shutter pins already installed into the louvers.  The 5/32" hole is a better choice for ease and speed of pin insertion.  An example would be the installation of nylon shutter pins into the louvers after the louvers are already connected to the tilt bar and final assembly of the shutter panel is accomplished at the same assembly station.

Louver Repair Pins:

Louver repair pins are used when a nylon shutter pins breaks in a shutter panel that is already constructed.  Unlike the solid nylon shutterLouver Repair Pins pin described above, the repar pin is a retractable pin.  The fat part of the pin is inserted into the shutter stile, using your finger simply push on the pin.  The pin becomes flush with the inside of the stile allowing you to pass the louver over the pin.  Once the pin finds the hole at the end of the louver, it will spring forward into the hole and secure the louver.
